Resource for teachers and parents to see what we are doing in APE
I have a few questions and they regard the scheduling, such as how often you review the lesson plans and what's the unit length? Since Wed. are your locomotor days, do you focus on fine motor skills or hand/eye-hand/foot coordination at the stations? Do you have a set time/plan for revisiting the lesson plans and how long do you spend on your units? Thanks,

Hello,
ReplyDeleteI will try to answer your questions to the best of my ability.
-I am not 100% sure what you mean by reviewing my lesson plans. Administration reviews our lesson plans (if they want them turned in). And
in my district we have 12 APE teachers so we do all of the teaching, so we dont give lesson plans to the classroom special ed teachers.
-For the unit length of our elementary and PPCD lessons its kind of a varried approach. Since our district does not ability group the FAC classes are VERY varied in skill level. How we teach these classes is up to us. For this particular campus there are two different FAC classes (k-2 & 3-5) I have broken the two classes up into a higher abilty level and a lower ability level. I meet with the lower ability level class on Mon (40 min) for stations (most of which are on their IEP's) and do the same with the higher level students on Tuesday. Then on Wednesday both groups meet for a 20 min locomotor class (walking/walking backwards/small steps/big steps/slide/gallop/run/etc). On Thursday I pull individual kids to test their IEP's, this class lasts 20 min so i can usually test 3-5 kids during that time. Then on Friday (40 min) we play a group game with the higher and lower level kids (and some 3rd grade peers).
-We meet with FAC classes for 100 min a week (although we are changing it to 90 due to scheduling issues).
-For our lessons plans with PPCD and FAC we follow grade level TEKS (our curiculm guidelines for texas) I hit all of the TEKS within the stations and group games (ie object contorl, gross motor skills, game rules/concepts).
-Our middle and high school FAC classes have more of a traditional format with units, there i change sports every 2-3 weeks (middle school meets 50 min a day and high school 120 a week with peer partners who help teach the class!).
Sorry it took me so long to reply to this... I just saw someone left a comment on this blog.. You're the first person to do so!!! If you have any other questions please feel free to ask away.
Have a great day,
